It is a perception within Appalachia that whites are the only significant group living there or that other groups are so small that their presence is of little consequence.

- Roberta M Campbell P.H.D "The Myth of Appalachian Whiteness

Appalachia is made up of 423 counties across 13 states. From Southern New York to Northern Mississippi.

The State of Georgia's Appalachian population is 3,375,098. 15.9% of that population is African Americans.

The African American Appalachian community has been a part of Georgia and Chattooga County for almost two centuries. They have contributed to the very foundation of these areas as slaves, construction workers, teachers, lawyers, beauticians, contractors, business owners, farmers, brick masons, pharmacists, and many more important parts of the infrastructure of Georgia. They have always been here and have always been an important part of Georgian history.

Regardless of the African American Appalachian's part in building the community to this day, these communities they are a part of tend to practice exclusion of different cultures. This is mostly due to ignorance of how their community came to exist. The history of the Appalachian African Americans hands in building the community has been lost to time, forgotten along with the numerous atrocities done to their people. If we forget our history, we are doomed to repeat it.

African American Culture Inc. seeks to tell the story of the Appalachian African American. The forgotten history of those who helped to build this community and still serve it in a multitude of ways to this day. The history of families lost to time, split for numerous reasons outside of their control. Through telling these stories and educating the populace we are intentionally making a way for diverse communities to flourish and building our inclusive community both spiritually and physically as one.
